Kazakhstan - Frontier Stock Market Information
Kazakhstan is the largest of the former Soviet republics in land territory (not including Russia), and it possesses plentiful supplies of minerals, metals, and enormous fossil fuel reserves. The booming economy of Kazakshstan will be a strong addition to any Frontier Market ETFs and funds. It has a very large agricultural sector that features livestock and grain. Kazakhstan's industrial sector rests on the processing as well as extraction of these natural resources. In 1995 to 1997, the pace of the government programs of privatization and economic reform quickened, resulting in a rapid and substantial shifting of assets into the private sector. Kazakhstan enjoyed double-digit growth in 2000-01 and 8% or more per year from 2002-07. It was due mostly to its booming energy sector, but also to economic reform, foreign investment, and good harvests. Aided by foreign exchange earnings as well as strong growth, Kazakhstan aspires to become a regional financial center. It has also created a banking system comparable to those in Central Europe.
